A tool which makes random combinations to facilitate idea generation. It is a visual board with words or phrases. WHY use it?

By combining seemingly unrelated words, students are prompted to think beyond their usual patterns and make connections between ideas they may not have previously considered, which can encourage creative thinking. The tool also allows students to generate many ideas in a short time without fear of failure, as the focus is on quantity rather than quality, making it an effective tool for idea generation.

How to do it?

▸Present the words – subjects (A) & quantiier word (B) (5mins)

1. Present the worksheet A with different subject nouns to the students.
2. Present the word card B with different quantiier words to the students.

▸Phrase matching (20mins)

Ask students to randomly choose the words from (A) and (B) one by one (could ask the students to randomly point a word on worksheet A with their eyes closed, and choose one from word card B), and then jot down what the combination could be. The goal is to generate as many combinations as possible.

▸Scenario building (20mins)

Ask the students to imagine the scenario of this new combined word and compose sentences or stories.
Encourage them to imagine the scenario through the lens of the user (could also use the inspiration card tool to facilitate scenario building).
